Activities for Children
Advent is a Latin word that actually means “to come” and refers to the coming of Jesus. In the Church, Advent is time of preparation and waiting for the birth of Jesus. Advent officially begins four Sundays before Christmas. It is a time of waiting, expecting and hoping as we prepare for Christ’s arrival at Christmas. Advent is a time for reconciliation and thinking about how we can become better. We can prepare for Jesus by using advent wreathes, the Jesse Tree, manger scenes, prayer and acts of kindness. These things help us remember that Jesus is the reason we celebrate Chrstmas.
