Halloween & All Saints Day

The word "Halloween" is a combination of the words "Hallow's Eve". The word “Hallow” means “Holy”. Do you remember any other place you've seen or heard the word "Hallow"? In the the Our Father prayer - “hallowed be thy name”. We remember that God's name is holy - or sacred, very special.

Catholics celebrate All Saints’ Day on November 1st which is also known as “All Hallows Day” because it’s the day we celebrate all the Holy people - the Saints. The night before All Saints’ Day is called “All Hallows Eve”, just like the night before Christmas is called “Christmas Eve”. Over time, "All Hallows Eve" became “Halloween”.

All Saints' Day is the day we celebrate all the holy men, women & children who loved and served God while they were alive and now live with God in heaven. The saints are our friends who pray for us because they are so close to God.
